The story of Matthew Travis Photography

While growing up, I never liked going by my middle name. I always liked my name, but I found it challenging in school to get teachers to remember that I go by Travis and not Matthew.

One of my first Christmas presents was a Polaroid camera. I burned through my pack of 15 pictures before everyone else had opened the rest of their presents. My Dad made sure to incorporate the lesson of how the Polaroid camera was invented. (A father was taking pictures of his daughter and she kept asking Daddy why she had to wait to see her pictures.) It's so cool to see instant cameras gaining popularity again.

I always had some sort of camera for the rest of my youth and when I moved away to college, I needed a part-time job. I started working retail in a big box store and eventually transitioned to work in the Photo Lab. I eventually became trusted by the local photographers to do color correction and editing of their pictures when they brought them in for development (ask your parents if you don't know what developing pictures means :)

I met my wife working in the same photo lab a few years later. I occasionally took some pictures for fun, but mostly of her or of scenery around town or while on vacation. I'm an IT major from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, so I was always around computers and occasionally did some photo editing. Over the years, family and friends encouraged me to start doing photography. I never listened until the Fall of 2020. I had some money saved up, so I purchased a camera and away we went.

I quickly recalled some of the concepts of photography and even more quickly recalled the editing process that I learned while working in the photo lab. My wife and I love capturing memories and strategizing before each photo shoot. She is beyond fantastic with children and gives me an extra set of eyes to make sure that no stray hairs are in your face.

When we are not working or taking pictures, we love to travel. We were fortunate enough to visit Hawaii a few years ago along with New York right before the pandemic. More recently, we made a multi-stop trip which included Las Vegas, Zion National Park, the Grand Canyon, and Sedona, Arizona.

* Side note, I am obsessed with anything Reese's. If you bring something Reese's flavored or if you can make authentic Key Lime Pie, we "may" consider a small discount toward your session. :)

Enough about us, as our motto is "It's all about you!". This is one of the few places you will see us talk about ourselves, but we wanted to give a quick backstory of how we got started. We look forward to meeting you and working with you to capture your perfect memories. Please reach out and let us know how we can help!!
